A note on getting things done and freeing up mental space
I thought of everything I needed to do: go grocery shopping, catch up with my siblings, respond to a friend’s Instagram meme, develop a project plan, make an important appointment, finish a book, go to the gym.
Within each of those items on my to-do list, there lie a dozen hidden sub-to-dos on how to make each happen. I could go grocery shopping, sure, but what should I buy? It’s hot in Los Angeles; I don’t want to turn the oven on.
With so much to think about, deciding can take a lot of work. It makes it easier to do nothing. And sometimes I love that option. Can’t be overwhelmed when you’re sleep. But then I decided. I picked up the phone and called for an appointment I’d been trying to make for months.
Afterward, I felt lighter, freer, and, yeah, happier.
So long as I dare to scratch items off my to-do list, I can free up space in my brain. Whether or not a physical list exists, I constantly think about what needs to happen.
I started with one thing.
Closing a few tabs in the brain feels good.
Couple of reads, audio, things
Here’s a few things I found interesting over the past week.
Vibing to Soh-Soh by Odeal.
Timing is everything.
A delicious date and ice cream dessert.
Looking inside Jodie Turner-Smith’s life.
The unheard story of David and Goliath.
